This past week at the centre, our little and big buddies are enjoying their summers and having a blast! They got to check out some pretty cool stuff this far, and man, this week was filled with robots, circus tents, colours, and much more!
Starting off our update in the extended care class. Miss Jordan had our friends keeping busy with some pretty cool crafts and activities. For sensory, our little buddies had the chance to play with Orbeez. What is a better way to pass the time and practice social and interaction skills? This is an excellent way for sure! They made butterflies out of coffee filters for craft and then got to play with them once they dried. Movie Day Friday, they watched the Bee Movie and had some popcorn. That is a classic movie and a fantastic way to relax. They continued with the bug theme on the weekend. On Saturday it was time to dance! Specifically, a bug dance. And then they ended the week on Sunday by making ladybug puppets.
Why did the clown go to the doctor?
Because he was feeling a little funny!!
Why make a joke about the circus? Because our little buddies in the preschool room at both Simcoe and Dalhousie dove into the world of circus tents, elephants, and clowns! They started the week by having our little buddies make glitter cotton candy, hop over stones, play with colourful rice for sensory and make some signs for the circus using chalk. The next day they became lions and made lion masks and then jumped through hoops like a lion would do in the circus! Then came circus tents and elephants; for the craft, they coloured in a circus tent colouring page, pretended to walk a tight rope for gross motor, and then made elephant toothpaste. What's another snack you get at the circus… POPCORN 🍿! Our little buddies made a popcorn craft. They had a construction paper popcorn bucket and then glued down popcorn to make it look like a full bag of popcorn. On Friday, they made jester hats and conducted a skittle rainbow experiment.
Miss Janise and her toddlers explored their numbers through song, crafts and much more!
Miss Josie’s toddlers were not looking at numbers but rather camping! For craft, they pitched a tent, made a handprint campfire, put marshmallows on a stick (papercraft), painted a firefly, and made a creepy crawly spider with pipe cleaners.
In our school-age room, our big buddies took part in TINKER CAMP. They learned about robots and got to design their very own robot. On Wednesday, they had a very special guest come in. Mr. Kyle came and gave a very magical show of Playing with Illusions. TheThe kids were so excited to take part in such a cool and awesome show! They came out and watched as Mr. Kyle performed a variety of magic tricks. He conducted a few containing cards. Making the kids pick a card and picking out that card at random in different ways. The kids were amazed, surprised, and confused at how he could guess which card was theirs without looking at it and knowing where it was in the deck. He also made Oreos disappear and reappear, making the kids constantly laugh. Another trick he performed was the ATM trick. Where he put in a blank piece of paper and out came money! How did he do it! We thank Mr. Kyle for his time and making the kids have a memorable day at summer camp. The school-agers finished their week with a virtual class with the Museum of Flight Planetarium and learned about stars.
Wow! What a great week! Stay tuned for all the fun things happening at the centres.

- 4: read the number book, stamped the number four for craft, counted and jumped for gross motor, and then played with a number 4 sensory bag filled with stones.
