This week was the official start of the Summer Camp program! And, let just say… It was a great start, too, the perfect start to summer. The theme of this week was Explorer’s Camp. On Monday, our little buddies had a special guest bring them some sweet treats. Kona Ice – Windsor made delicious shaved ice slushies in a variety of flavours. It was the perfect day too because it was very hot and sunny. Our school-agers and preschoolers had no disappointed faces. Our little buddies had a great time going up to the truck, ordering the flavour or colour they wanted, and sitting with their friends while gobbling up some cool yummy treats. There were definitely smiles all around. During the week, our school-agers were taking a look at the science behind different topics. On Tuesday, it was fun with flight, where they got to build paper airplanes using newspaper. On Wednesday, they looked into the world of deep-sea discovery. They had a virtual field trip to the Ripley’s Aquarium. To end the week, our big buddies learned the science of sports. 🍧✈🔍🌊🏈
Our School-agers are not the only ones having a blast in Summer Camp. Miss. Ashley has a fun summer planned for her preschoolers as well! This week our little buddies got to visit the beach… in spirit, of course. The preschoolers got to take part in the slushy day on Monday and had some fun games and activities to take part in during the week. They made sandpaper starfish, sandcastle sand art, painting seashells, and colouring different beach finds. Our little buddies even got to create their very own pair of cool sunglasses because it’s so sunny at the beach; let's keep the sun out of “our” eyes! Miss Josie’s toddlers also got in the beach mood with beach-themed games and crafts this week. They painted the beach water to cool off, coloured in a crab, painted using fish, decorated their very own turtle, and painted a multicolour shovel. For small group, they continued their summer fruits matching activity. 🌊🦀🐚🐟🕶🏖
Over at the other centre, preschoolers were camping. They had a week filled with outdoor-themed activities. Painting rocks, popsicle tents, sun catcher lanterns, and marshmallow names. Wow! In the toddler room, it was all about bugs. They sang songs, read books, and played games that had to do with insects. For craft, they painted butterflies, made ladybugs, painted using fly swatters, made a bug painting, and finger painted snails. To get moving, they had to jump like grasshoppers, crawl like ladybugs, wiggle like worms, fly like butterflies, and then to finish off the week, buzz like a bee. Our toddlers headed outside for some of the activities. They had to try to catch butterflies with nets and catch mayflies in a container so they could look at them. How fun! 🐛🐜🐝🐞🕷🦋🦟
This was an eventful week for all our little buddies. Can’t wait to see what happens next week and who our special guest will be! 😊
